LAW 12: USE SELECTIVE HONESTY AND GENEROSITY TO DISARM YOUR VICTIM

The essence of deception is distraction and the most powerful form of distraction is sincere generosity because it disarms the person. You can do this using an actual gift, a kind favor, an “honest” admission, any kind of noble, apparently selfless act. Who will distrust a person caught in the act of being honest?

LEARN TO GIVE, OR SO THEY THINK.

This key to power was used in Ancient China and was called “giving before you take”. Just taking something from someone is dangerous. It is also dangerous to simple ask for what you need so you “give before you take” because the giving makes it hard for your victim to notice the taking. It distracts them, softens their ground and gives you the time and space to make your attack.

HELLO, I WANT TO (TAKE YOUR MONEY) BE YOUR FRIEND J

This law of power will work best on your first encounter with your victim. First impressions last so if someone believes you are honest at the start, they won’t readily think otherwise. But a single act of honesty is often not enough. You have to build a reputation of honesty through series of acts. Once this reputation is established, it’s going to be hard to shake.

IMAGE: THE TROJAN HORSE

…your guile is hidden inside a magnificent gift that proves irresistible to your opponent. Once inside, WREAK HAVOOOC!

We all know the story. Over 3 thousand years ago, the ancient Greek traveled across the sea to recapture Helen and to destroy Troy. The war lasted ten years but no one had come close to victory. Then the clever Greek leader, Odysseus came up with the idea of building a giant wooden horse, hiding their men inside it, then offering it to the Trojans as a gift. Once inside the Trojan army, they attacked. The trick was successful and Troy fell. *evil laugh*

PRACTICE WITH CAUTION

This tactic must be done with caution. If your victim sees through it, they will be disappointed and their feelings of gratitude will turn into violent hatred. If you cant make your act seem sincere and heartfelt, try a different law of power.

Being generous may create a good impression but not all people may take it as you want them to. Be very careful when using this especially on people you don't really know.

This might be one of the most versatile law of power. The key to using this power is to establish trust and from there, there's nothing you cannot do. He/She will be at the tip of your fingers. You can make him your scapegoat, your extended arms, your spy or simply wreck havoc in his house anytime you wished. The key is to dress yourself as a mutual friend. The kind that takes but also gives. Once you've disguise yourself, just like a gold mine, take and take until you've exhaust the supply

This law reminds me about Scipio and the Celtiberian noble Aluccius. He was able to show Aliccius that Romans were good people, and he was able to convince him to be on their side. He had a ransom for a girl who was betrothed to Aliccius, and he treated her well and set her free, giving the dowry as a wedding present.

“In return for that boon I stipulate for this one reward - that you will be a friend to Rome. If you believe me to be an upright and honourable man such as the nations here found my father and uncle to be, you may rest assured that there are many in Rome like us, and you may be perfectly certain that nowhere in the world can any people be named whom you would less wish to have as a foe to you and yours, or whom you would more desire as a friend."

“Delighted with the present and the honourable treatment he had received, the young man resumed home, and filled the ears of his countrymen with justly-earned praises of Scipio. A young man had come among them, he declared, in all ways like the gods, winning his way everywhere by his generosity and goodness of heart as much as by the might of his arms. He began to enlist a body of his retainers, and in a few days returned to Scipio with a picked force of 1400 mounted men.”
(Livy book XXVI:50)

As can be seen here, Scipio was able to use his generosity to gain an even bigger benefit. Instead of getting a ransom of gold, he was able to multiply it into the trust and support of the Celtiberians. Generosity leads to a certain level of gratitude on the part of the receiver. They feel that they “owe” something to you and will be grateful to do anything to return whatever favor. Using this, one can manipulate others into thinking that they are so kind, yet at the same time these “kind” people only want something in return.

Once again… know thy enemy, know thy self. Be sure that when you display your “fake generosity” your enemy won’t be smart enough to see through it. At the same time know that you can display a believable act of “fake genoristy”.

The pioneers of this law may very well be considered the pioneers of deception and cunning. I do like the law - it is very craftily thought of. Generosity makes the receiver in your control, generally speaking. With this, you gain power - power to manipulate, take from, or even destroy your enemy. provided you play your cards right.

While this law is quite useful to know in planning your attack on your victim, I think it's a rather low way of getting what you want. Trickery and deception does seem to be a non-admirable way to get to power, isn't it?

I agree with Eric, since I believe that there are more productive and noble ways of obtaining power, and these usually do not involve either manipulation or trickery. But let's face it. It's hard for people of today, in the same way that it was hard for the people of the ancient world, to obtain power and not end up stepping on other people.
With that aside, I think that one of the main factors why open-hearted gestures of honesty and generosity work is the impression that it gives the enemy. In assuming a friendly, harmless, and innocent front, the enemy is under the impression that we are also bringing our guard down because we trust them (and they in turn trust us). Appeal to their self-interest, and work on their hearts and minds. Find what tickles them the most.
Though devoid of life, drugs also work on the same principle: they at first appear to give you satisfaction beyond your wants, but after allowing them to get into your system (in the same way that a Trojan horse always sneaks up to a computer's system), there's nowhere to go but downhill. In letting your guard down, you supply the drug with the right strings to pull and manipulate you.

It's not too late!

this is good deception but the receiver must be simple hearted to fall for a first few honesty.I always think of the gain they have from me by being my friend, even if they are truly honest.lot of people wont trust so easily and if one could display that much honesty and gain trust.he might be truly honest person.why would he destroy the honest image he created by deception and manipulation
